Professor Gholamreza Khatami Ghazvini was born in 1930. He studied medicine and trained in pediatrics at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and pediatric gastroenterology at the Sick Children Hospital in Edinbrough, UK (1973).
He has been president of Iranian Society of Pediatrics for 10 years.
He is the founder of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology subspecialty in Iran. He served as head of pediatric department for 2 years and chairman of pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology department in Tehran University of Medical Sciences as well as GI ward in Children Hospital Medical Center (1974-2007). He has trained many pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship students over these years.
He founded Iranian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2004 and he has been the president of Iranian Society of Pediatric Nutrition for 6 years. He has been also a Member of National Medical Council (1991-1995).
He organized National Annul Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology for the first time in 2006 and continued it till present, he has also been president of Annual Congress of Iranian Society of Pediatrics and Memorial Congress of Professor Mohammad Gharib since 2009. He has been a member of the organizing committee of 5 Iranian Turkish Pediatric Meetings since 2010. He was the president of XII Eurasian Pediatric Congress which was held in Iran in 2012.Also, He was member of organizing committee of First Iranian Italian Pediatric Meeting in Iran in 2019. He promoted international scientific activities of Iranian Society of Pediatrics during his presidency such as scientific communication between Iranian and Turkish, Afghanistan, Italian, UMEMPS and UNIPSTR Pediatric Societies. Iranian Society of Pediatrics became a member of International Pediatric Association during his presidency.
In addition of being scientific advisor of Ministry of Health, he has served as member of several scientific committees such as CDD, ARI, IMCI, Vaccination, Infant formula and food and Breastfeeding Promotion.
He attended many workshops related to breastfeeding, CDD, ARI and IMCI as a mentor for scientific staffs of universities throughout the country.
He has been member of editorial board for several National and International Scientific Journals and has numerous publications including the first translation of Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics into Persian(8th edition 1964), editing annual book of Memorial Congress of Professor Mohammad Gharib (1983-1999).
He has supervised publishing many scientific books as well as running research projects. He has received numerous award and honours including recognition for his lifelong outstanding achievements and services.
